Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Scholarships
Dr. Larry Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Administration
Background
The Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services, Corvallis, Oregon. It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the President/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, upon the completion of his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina.
The scholarship fund is housed with the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Corvallis, Oregon. Dr. Mullins chairs the selection committee for the scholarship. At least one scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually from the fund.
Eligibility
In order to be considered for a Mullins scholarship, a candidate must:
- Plan to pursue (or be currently pursuing) an undergraduate or graduate degree in health care administration or a related field, such as public health;
- Be accepted to (or be currently enrolled in) one of the following institutions for the upcoming fall semester: Glendale Community College (Arizona), Linn-Benton Community College (Oregon), Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, Oregon State University, or Medical University of South Carolina;
- Upon receiving a Mullins scholarship, be willing to submit a progress report at the mid-point of the following year;
- Mullins scholarships are available to individuals without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability, or marital status;
- Note: special consideration will be given to applicants who are currently employed in the health care field, members or veterans of the U.S. military, and those who are working while attending college.
Application Process and Timeline
- Application information is available to high school and college financial aid/career planning staff, as well as on the Samaritan Health Services website.
- Completed applications are due in early April of each year (check application for specific date). Scholarship recipient(s) will be announced in late May.
- Scholarship funds will be mailed in June in the recipient’s name directly to the college/university indicated on the application. No funds will be released directly to the recipient.

The Virginia Welch Scholarship
Background:
The Virginia Welch Scholarship is offered annually by the GSRMC Auxiliary to high school seniors, college and graduate students who are pursuing medical careers. Applicants will be evaluated in the following areas: quality of application, quality of references, minimum 3.0 GPA, volunteer work/paid employment, financial need, choice of health field and extracurricular activities.
Interested applicants can contact the GSRMC Auxiliary office to place their name on the mailing list. Application packets will be mailed when they are available each Spring.
