Samaritan Family Medicine, Geary Street, welcomes clinical psychologist
Samaritan Family Medicine, Geary Street is pleased to welcome its newest provider, clinical psychologist Christopher Smith, PhD.
Dr. Smith earned bachelor’s degrees in psychology and history from Radford University, and master’s degrees in counseling and psychology from Loyola University and Yeshiva University. He completed a doctoral degree in clinical psychology, with a specialization in health psychology, at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. He also completed a two-year post-doctoral fellowship program in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute.
Dr. Smith specializes in short-term, intensive psychological treatment, utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy.
“I utilize real-life, practical techniques, enabling clients to quickly develop the skills to independently and continually achieve the quality of wellness they seek,” Dr. Smith said.
Dr. Smith has advanced training in the treatment of anxiety, stress reduction and trauma and treatment for patients with chronic illnesses such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
“Helping others is a deep-seated value of mine, and a guiding principle throughout my life,” Dr. Smith said. “I feel that by offering an ear to my clients, I am helping people, one at a time, in a way that really makes a difference.”
Having recently moved to the Pacific Northwest with his wife, Katie, Dr. Smith is looking forward to camping and backpacking in the region. He also enjoys music, carpentry, reading historical fiction and refurbishing antique coach lamps into electric lights.
