Physicians use amazing new 3T MRI to diagnose and treat with greater precision

Oct 5,2009

The new 3T MRI at Corvallis MRI enables physicians and surgeons to diagnose and treat disease and injury with greater precision than ever before.

The GE MR750 Discovery 3T (or tesla) MRI features twice the magnetic field as the 1.5T MRI technology currently in use as the standard in most clinical settings. This increased strength results in images with much higher resolution than ever before, or allows for much shorter exam times while maintaining improved image quality.

Health care professionals in the region are using this life-saving tool to make even more informed diagnosis, treatment and surgery decisions, with expanded diagnostic imaging capabilities in the fields of neurology, cardiology, orthopedics, breast imaging and more.

There are only a handful of other 3T MRI systems in use in Oregon – in Portland, Eugene and Medford. The only other GE MR750 Discovery 3T MRI system on the west coast is at Stanford University.

“The new MRI has allowed me to view the body in ways that were never possible before,” said Robert Babbel, MD, a radiologist with Corvallis Radiology. “Because of the quality of the images that can be obtained with the new MRI, I feel more confident in my assessments and recommendations than ever before.”
