Cutting-edge MRI comes to mid-valley

Sep 21,2009
Corvallis MRI, a joint venture of Corvallis Radiology and Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, is pleased to announce the arrival of its new, state-of-the-art 3T MRI.

The 3T (or tesla) MRI features twice the magnetic field as the 1.5T MRI machines currently in use as the standard in most clinical settings.

Health care professionals in the region look forward to using this life-saving tool to make even more informed diagnosis, treatment and surgery decisions, with expanded diagnostic imaging capabilities in the fields of neurology, cardiology, orthopedics, breast imaging and more.

“The 3T MRI system will allow us to view the human body in ways that were never possible before,” said Robert Babbel, MD, a radiologist with Corvallis Radiology. “This will enable our physicians and surgeons to diagnose and treat with even greater confidence. It’s like going from a VHS tape to a Blu-Ray DVD. The image quality of these machines is outstanding.”

The GE MR750 Discovery 3T MRI is the most advanced scanner available for clinical use, providing clearer, more precise images that show previously undetectable details. Innovative features of the system will make exam set up and scan times faster. Patients will spend less time in the scanner, resulting in less movement and fidgeting around, better images and an improved overall patient experience.

There are only a handful of other 3T MRI systems in use in Oregon – in Portland, Eugene and Medford. The only other GE MR750 Discovery 3T MRI system on the west coast is at Stanford University.

“Patients of the region will now benefit from this cutting-edge, life-saving diagnostic imaging technology right here, close to home,” said Babbel. “This is just one more tool we can use to provide exceptional health care here in our community.”
