Free breast and cervical cancer screenings offered in Corvallis
The Women’s Cancer Coalition will offer free breast and cervical cancer screenings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 to women 21 and older who are uninsured or underinsured.
The free screening event is intended for women who have not otherwise had access to regular screenings and will be held at Samaritan Obstetrics & Gynecology, 3640 NW Samaritan Drive, Suite 270 (in the Corvallis Medical Center building next to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.)
Registration is encouraged, but walk-ins are also welcome. Transportation and on-site childcare is available if needed. To register, for more information, and to arrange for transportation call (541) 768-5220. On the day of the event call the direct line: (541) 768-5540.
Participants will receive Pap tests, clinical manual breast exams and vouchers for free digital mammograms. Abnormal test results will be referred to the Women’s Cancer Coalition for medical follow-up.
Breast self-exam instructions, educational materials and light refreshments will also be provided at the event.
Breast cancer is the second highest cause of cancer-related deaths in women, and will affect an average of one in eight women at some point in their lifetime. Early detection is vital to successful treatment.
Thanks to the Pap test, cervical cancer has become relatively rare in the United States. Early detection is key to detecting changes in the cervix that can be treated before they become cancer.
The Women’s Cancer Coalition mission is to provide increased awareness, education and resources for breast and cervical cancer patients in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties.
