Tribe teams up with hospital employees to purchase surgery equipment
Oct 12,2009
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund teamed up with Samaritan Pacific Health Services employees to purchase two new patient recovery recliners for the Surgery Department, which provides treatment to approximately 200 patients each month.
When patients come out of surgery, they are seated in recovery recliners until they are stable and able to get up and walk. Many patients are at risk of a condition called bradycardia, which is a very low heart rate and low blood pressure. When this happens, patients need to be immediately placed in a reclining position, where their heads are lowered and their feet are raised. In addition, after surgery patients are often nauseous and uncomfortable and may need to lie down. Finally, patients are getting increasingly larger in size, so recovery recliners need to accommodate weights of 250 lbs. or more. The new recliners meet all of these requirements and are now being used to improve the experience of patients recovering from outpatient surgery.
The Siletz Tribal Charitable Contribution Fund granted $4,026 to the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation to purchase the chairs. In addition, the Foundation Employee Committee granted $2,000 for the chairs from funds donated through the annual Samaritan Employee Caring Campaign.
