The heavy sleeper: how weight impacts sleep

Aug 4,2014
Bariatric surgeon Don Yarbrough, MD, from the Samaritan Bariatric Surgery Program will speak about a weighty subject: how obesity impacts quality of sleep.

Approximately 18 million Americans have sleep apnea and being overweight is a major contributing factor.  As a person gains weight, especially in the trunk and neck area, the risk of sleep apnea increases. Yarbrough will talk about this connection, as well as the available options to help get weight and sleep back on track.

This event takes place Thursday, Aug. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at Samaritan Albany General Hospital in the third-floor conference room. It is part of the Dream On support group, which aims to help those who suffer from a sleep disorder find the help and support they need. New members and attendees are always welcome!

To register and for more information, please call Samaritan Sleep Center in Albany at 541-812-5470. The meeting is free and open to the public. Healthy snacks will be provided.
