The Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation, Girod Scholarship Committee, Easton Scholarship Committee and Dinges Scholarship Committee are pleased to announce five winners for their scholarships for 2011.
The Girod Committee gave three scholarships this year to:
- Ross Wopat, son of Ellen and Rick Wopat MD, in his fourth year at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine
- Nicholas Blake, son of Zsuzsa and Alan Blake, MD, in his second year at Oregon Health & Science University
- Bradley Buchheit, in his first year at State University of New York at Buffalo Medical School
The late Frank Girod, MD, was one of the founding members of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. His family awards this scholarship every year in Dr. Girod’s honor to students from east Linn County who are pursuing careers in medicine.
The family of the late Rachel Easton, a longtime nurse at Samaritan’s Park Street Clinic, awards the Easton scholarship each year in her honor to an east Linn area student enrolled in a nursing program. This year’s scholarship went to Janelle Laster, who is enrolled in the Linn-Benton Community College (LBCC) nursing program.
John and Carol Dinges of Lebanon award the Dinges Medical Scholarship every year to a graduate of a high school in east Linn County who is currently enrolled in an entry-level health career program at LBCC. This year, the award went to Kyle Lewis for his first year at LBCC to begin prerequisites for the Diagnostic Imaging program.
