Longtime Corvallis-based sports medicine and shoulder/hand specialist Dr. Luis R. Vela, DO, has joined Samaritan Health Services.
Dr. Vela earned a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, N.C., and a medical degree from Nova-Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in North Miami Beach, Fla. He completed an internship at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich., and residency training in orthopedic surgery at Garden City Hospital in Garden City, Mich. Dr. Vela completed a fellowship in hand and microvascular surgery Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla., with additional specialty training in shoulder and elbow. He is board certified in orthopedic surgery.
Dr. Vela provides orthopedic treatment for the shoulder, arm and hand. He specializes in treating throwing and overhead athletes. In addition to working in his full-time practice, Dr. Vela also serves as the orthopedic residency program director and the chairman of the graduate medical education committee at Samaritan Health Services.
Dr. Vela’s clinic, Samaritan Orthopedics – Dr. Luis Vela, is located in the newly constructed Samaritan Ambulatory Surgery Center located at 3620 NW Samaritan Drive, Suite 201 on the campus of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
