Calling all moustache aficionados!

Oct 26,2012

Men across the globe will shave their faces on November 1 and start growing their moustache for 30 days. Why? It’s Movember!

Movember is a global men's health movement held every November to support awareness and fundraising for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

Participation is easy, with a couple of options. Men can choose to grow a mo — short for mustache — to spark conversations about men’s health and the importance of cancer screenings. They become walking, talking billboards, with each moustache generating an estimated 2,413 conversations during the month.

For men who choose to grow a mo and register with the official organization, they must start the first of November clean shaven and grow their moustache for 30 days, getting friends, family and colleagues to donate and support their mo-growing efforts. Funds from registered participants in the U.S. go to the Prostate Cancer Foundation and LIVESTRONG, the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Women can get involved by becoming “Mo Sistas,” acting as team captains, recruiting others to join, initiating conversations, lending support to Mo Bros who grow, and raising general awareness for the importance of men’s health. Since 2003, the worldwide movement has involved:

  • 21 countries represented

  • $299 million raised for the cause
  • 1.9 million participants

Movember aims to forever change the face of men's health through the power of the moustache. If you choose to grow a mo this month, remember: when you are asked about the change in your facial hair status, use the opportunity to talk about the importance of cancer screenings for men.

Show your mo! Email your photo to, and we’ll post it on Samaritan’s Facebook page. Please include your name, city and phone number. One lucky Mo Bro will be chosen to receive a mustache-related gift ... and bragging rights for life.
