Participants sought for pancreatic clinical trial

Sep 1,2009
Dr. Peter Kenyon, medical director of the Samaritan Regional Cancer Center, is conducting a clinical trial for people with advanced or metastatic pancreatic cancer.

The study, sponsored by Tragara Pharmaceutical, is trying to determine if adding a new drug to standard pancreatic cancer therapy is more effective and what the side effects of the combination may be.

All patients receive the standard therapy and are “randomized” (like flipping a coin) to receive either the study medication or a placebo (pill with no active ingredients). Two out of 3 patients will receive the study medication but neither the physician or the patient will know if the patient is receiving the study medication or the placebo (this is called double-blind).
