Paul Daskalos, DO, physician at Samaritan Albany General Hospital
and Samaritan Obstetrics & Gynecology in North Albany
was awarded the 2010 Preceptor of the Year Award from the Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of Oregon for his passion and commitment to the many medical students he has mentored since joining Samaritan in 1997.
“Knowledge, communication and leadership aside, Dr. Daskalos sets an excellent example for all of our medical students and residents on how to be a compassionate and thorough physician,” said Nancy Bell, RN, vice president of Academic Affairs for Samaritan Health Services. “We’re proud of his achievement.”
Dr. Daskalos, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology and has more than 15 years of experience in the field, has served as a preceptor to residents and medical students for more than four years.
“I’ve been honored to share my knowledge and experience with so many students of medicine,” Dr. Daskalos said. “But medicine goes beyond one’s knowledge of anatomy and disease – it’s about caring for and connecting with people on a personal level. That’s what I hope my students have gleaned from their time with me.”
And the time spent with his medical students has also taught this experienced physician a thing or two about the human side of health care. “Their passion and excitement is a constant reminder of why I became a physician,” said Dr. Daskalos. “I try to match that level of enthusiasm every day with each of my patients, medical students and staff at Samaritan.”
