Pick of the Month: Dazzling Dry Beans

Feb 1,2012
In honor of Heart Month this month, try some fat-free, sodium-free dry beans! In addition to these heart-friendly qualities, beans are a great source of fiber and protein.

Fiber can help manage cholesterol, prevent certain types of cancer and maintain a healthy GI tract. When increasing fiber in your diet, go slow and make sure you drink more water. The American Heart Association recommends people consume four ounces of nuts, legumes and seeds every week. The 2010 Dietary guidelines call for a cup and a half of beans per week.
