Two of Samaritan’s newest research tools,
ScanGrants and
ResearchRaven, are receiving considerable national and international recognition for their innovative approach to advancing health, scholarship and medical research.
ScanGrants, which launched in 2008, currently holds more than 650 different listings of health-related grants, scholarships and fellowships largely from private corporations, professional societies and foundations around the world.
“This product has the potential to greatly impact local health care throughout the state of Oregon, and influential international institutions are beginning to recognize its value,” said Dr. Jana Kay Slater, director of the SHS Center for Health Research and Quality.
ScanGrants has been reviewed by several prestigious journals and commentators on library science including the Journal of the Medical Library Association in 2009. It has also been adopted as an electronic resource by many prestigious entities including: the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Library; the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center; the Department of Pediatrics at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine; and the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research at Washington University.
ResearchRaven, a free electronic database of potential venues for the dissemination of research by health professionals and scientists, launched in April. It lists calls for papers and meetings on a variety of health topics from across the nation and around the world.
In just two short months, 350 announcements have been listed from New York and Utah to Japan and Sweden. Topics cover virtually every field of health, wellness and medical care.
Together these free resources provide a unique approach to facilitating research, a cornerstone of Samaritan’s commitment to building healthier communities together.
