Support group takes message to the community

May 15,2012
The Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center stroke and brain injury support group hopes to talk with lots of community members at the Corvallis Farmers’ Market on Saturday, May 26.

The group will host a table at the market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to share information about stroke symptoms and response, as well as personal experiences as stroke survivors.

“They are enthusiastic about being there,” said Samaritan Physical Therapy Speech Therapist Shawn Johnson, the group’s facilitator. “The big thing all of them wanted to do is to build awareness of risk factors for stroke and how to respond.”

Samaritan Stroke Services Coordinator Karen Phillips, RN, will also be on hand to share information, as well as staff members of Samaritan Physical Rehabilitation.

“We really want to spread the message that when it comes to stroke, time is brain,” Johnson said.
