Samaritan plays a significant role in the Lincoln County Diabetes Coalition. This active organization brings together agencies and individuals from throughout the county who are committed to reducing the incidence and unpleasant side effects of diabetes through education and outreach.
In addition to Samaritan's two coastal hospitals, Samaritan North Lincoln (Lincoln City) and Samaritan Pacific Communities (Newport) hospitals, the coalition includes representatives from the Oregon Diabetes Association, the Siletz Tribe, the Public Health Advisory Committee, Federally Qualified Health Centers, Lincoln County Health and Human Services, Commission for Children and Families, independent home nursing services, as well as several community citizens living with diabetes, and more.
The main project of the coalition is the sponsoring of an annual diabetes workshop for people living with diabetes. The workshop offers participants educational lectures, updates on medicines and medical equipment related to diabetes, food, activities, vendor booths and a chance to share with other people who understand the challenges of the disease.
