Our program is a 150-hour course fulfilling the Oregon State Board of Nursing requirements for nursing assistant training and grants a certificate of completion as a nursing assistant. Participants will also earn nine credit hours from LBCC.
This course combines knowledge learning (either through a classroom setting or online) with skills labs and hands-on clinical experience. Students will receive instructions in basic bedside nursing skills, basic restorative skills, mental health and social service needs, personal care skills and knowledge of client rights.
Students will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients in long-term care and acute care facilities. This course requires both time and a personal caring commitment from the students. Students must also be able to meet physical requirements, engage in therapeutic communication and deal with stressful interpersonal situations.

Nurse assistant training options
We offer two different training types: A traditional classroom experience and an online/in-person combination course. Both classes require completion of a clinical experience.
Clinical experience
The clinical experience is a 10 day rotation and takes place at either Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis or at Samaritan Albany General Hospital in Albany. Hours will be from 6:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 2:45 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. with one half-hour lunch and two fifteen-minute breaks. Scheduled shifts will be rotated between students. We reserve the right to change this schedule at any time.
All students are required to complete the clinical experience. Attendance at each clinical rotation is mandatory and failure to attend will result in failure of the course.
Classroom option
Students who choose the classroom option will attend classes between Monday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with one half-hour lunch and two fifteen-minute breaks. Hands-on skills training will accompany lecture materials in a lab setting. There are 10 classroom sessions and they will be held at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital in Lebanon.
Online/classroom combination course
Students who choose this combination course will complete online trainings, an in-person final exam, five days of lab/skills training (8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.), and the clinical experience.
This online training takes approximately 51 hours and includes quizzes after each section that students must pass before being allowed to continue to the next section. Students may set their own schedule and complete the trainings at any time, as long as each training is completed by the date of the final exam. Students must be able to navigate and complete each training independently.
Once applicants are accepted into the combination course, instructions will be provided on accessing the online training materials and resources. Online assistance is available via online forums and e-mail contact with the instructors.
Applicants choosing this option must have access to a computer with a high-speed internet connection (dial-up may work, but there is no guarantee), Adobe Flash, sound and e-mail. Applicants who prefer or require a high-level of instructor interaction are encouraged to apply for the traditional classroom option.
