Meet Emily Anthony

Youthful manager plays big role at hospital and on stage

Emily Anthony, RN, BSN, admits she has an obsession with productivity. And it's that productivity and effectiveness that have helped the 32-year-old move from ICU nurse, to ICU manager and now to holding responsibilities for the hospital in its entirely.

"I've been with Samaritan for 10 years," says Anthony. "First as a new grad in the ICU at Albany General Hospital. Then I moved here to Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital as an ICU nurse before taking on increasing administrative duties. Now I'm the ICU Manager and wear multiple other hats within the hospital."

Anthony says she thrives on helping create improvements – whether they are made through her administrative work or in patients admitted to the ICU.

"The best part of my job is getting to see the dramatic improvements in our patients' health and well-being." she says. "When they arrive at the ICU they are often very sick and the recovery can be significant. Being a critical part of creating that healing environment and caring for patients and their families is very rewarding."

Anthony says the family atmosphere at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital adds to the enjoyment of her job.

"People in this hospital are amazing," says Anthony. "It's a very cohesive, collaborative, supportive group – that's one of the benefits of being at a smaller community hospital."

Away from work, Anthony says she loves the city of Newport where there is an abundance of cultural and outdoor activities.

"This is such a culturally oriented community," she says. "I've been involved in dance almost all my life and there are multiple theater groups and three dance schools here in this small town. Not to mention the visual arts, symphony and many other musical opportunities."

Anthony attends regular dance and yoga classes and performs in both musical and dramatic theater. She also spends time with her dog, Oscar, and enjoys the mountains, river, beach and the multitude of recreational activities Newport has to offer.

"There's just so much activity here, it really makes this small town feel very large. It's definitely a great place for active young adults."
