Since arriving in Lincoln City in 1991, Dr. Dean Orton has built a robust professional and personal life as one of the longest-serving physicians in the area. He's not only been a fixture in the Emergency Department at Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital over the years, he's also branched out to care for pediatric patients in the outpatient setting, in addition to providing non-surgical orthopedic services and caring for walk-in patients at a local clinic.
"I've been so lucky to be able to practice in different areas and help fill some gaps where most needed," said Dr. Orton. "I've found the administration at Samaritan very easy to work with and that's been a plus through the years."
While he enjoys a fulfilling professional career, Lincoln City has also been the place where his personal life blossomed. He met his wife soon after making the Oregon coast home and the two now have three grown daughters and 11 grandchildren.
"We spend a lot of time with our family," he says. "And we also spend a lot of time outdoors. We live in the perfect place to do that. I love the beauty of forested land."
Dr. Orton, who can walk to the beach in just 10 minutes from his home, also enjoys hiking, working in his yard and doing home improvement projects.
As for his favorite aspects of his professional life, he says he appreciates the hospital staff and how much they care about what they do. He's also proud of the high-tech equipment available at the hospital and says many people are surprised at how state-of-the-art the facility is.
"I came from a 250-bed hospital," said Dr. Orton. "And this one was just as well-equipped. And I believe we've kept up with that over the years."
