Graduate Nurse Transition Program

The Graduate Nurse Transition Program of Samaritan Health Services

If you're about to graduate from a registered nursing program, you're eligible for an exciting career opportunity. It's the Graduate Nurse Transition Program offered through Samaritan Health Services (SHS) in Oregon.

Samaritan Health Services is a community-centered health care delivery system that includes acute-care hospitals, senior care facilities, physician offices, dialysis clinics, home health, hospice and more. It serves as a regional facility for both cardiac and cancer care, having within its system both a cardiac institute and a cancer center.

What is the Graduate Nurse Transition Program?

As its name indicates, it's a program that provides a transition between nursing school and on-the-job, on-your-own patient care. It's a time of guided orientation that will help you integrate and apply your medical knowledge and sharpen your technical skills. It allows you to gradually assume more and more responsibility in your new career; so that by the time you have completed the program, you will feel confident in your ability to provide the best possible care to your patients.

The program offers focused, multidisciplinary classroom training, as well as a customized preceptored clinical experience. Both the didactic and clinical components emphasize the transition skills and knowledge base you will need to bridge the gap between school and workplace. Candidates apply to and orient in a specific health care setting.

While you are enrolled in the transition program, you will be paid entry-level nursing wages. Each week, you will meet with your preceptor/s, manager and a staff educator, so that you may evaluate your progress, discuss any concerns or questions you may have, and set goals for the next week. All along the way, you will have the support and guidance of highly-trained, caring professionals.

Would You Want To Be A Part Of Samaritan Health Services?

If the values of Excellence, Respect, Compassion, Stewardship, Leadership, Integrity and Service are what attracted you to the nursing field in the first place, you will find that working with Samaritan Health Services is a good fit. The above values permeate every aspect of the SHS health care delivery system.

SHS is committed to providing a caring, values-driven environment for its patients and for its employees. It demonstrates its concern for employees in a number of ways, including providing competitive benefits as well as ongoing training and development opportunities.

It relies upon its stated values as it serves the greater community as well. For example, through its Social Accountability Budget, SHS annually provides a percentage of its net earnings to support community programs, such as free clinics and school-based health and wellness initiatives.

Would You Enjoy Living In The SHS Area?

The facilities that make up Samaritan Health Services are located in the beautiful Willamette Valley in west central Oregon. The landscape offers spectacular views of the Cascade Mountains to the east and the gently undulating Coast Ranges to the west. The mighty Pacific Ocean, which is less than an hour away, provides miles of windswept beaches, cozy coves and quaint fishing villages. You can always find a forested mountain trail to hike, a river to sail or fish, a vineyard at which to sample wines, or a snowcapped peak to ski.

The SHS area can satisfy your educational, cultural and commercial tastes as well. It's home to numerous colleges and universities, including Oregon State University, Linn-Benton Community College and Western Oregon University. In addition, it's only 80 miles from the popular theater and arts districts and bustling shopping centers of Portland.
