In 2003 Samaritan Evergreen Hospice staff, a Linn-Benton volunteer task force and the Albany General Hospital Foundation began pursuing a dream of establishing an inpatient hospice facility for our region. That dream became a reality in August 2012, when the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House opened its doors in Albany, becoming only the third such facility in the state of Oregon.
But our work is not yet done.
To ensure that 100 percent of the construction costs are covered by philanthropy, the Albany General Hospital Foundation is continuing a fundraising campaign to raise the final $1 million required for house construction and necessary equipment for the facility.
Every day of the year hospice touches people's lives throughout our region. It brings a celebration of life to those who are dying and solace and guidance to their families and friends. By providing a new place to care for these families, the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House elevates this work. Ultimately, it will elevate all of us by reinforcing our most fundamental and meaningful values.
The hospice house, on the eastern border of Albany, is easily accessible to the city, Interstate 5, and just a few minutes' drive to Highway 34 leading both east and west. Due to its location, the house has served patients from across western Oregon. In its first year, the house and its staff served more than 400 patients.
You are invited to join the campaign to ensure that construction of this facility is funded entirely by the community and other grateful donors. For more information, please call the Albany General Hospital Foundation at 541-812-4819.
