As a Samaritan Health Services employee, residents are eligible to participate in the benefit plans (medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability). Coverage will begin on the first day of the month following employment. Learn more about the health insurance offered to our employees.
Residents receive 20 days of paid leave each academic year. Leave time can be taken in increments of one to five days. No more than five days can be taken from a rotation. It is highly recommended that five days be set aside for CME activities and specialty college meetings.
The Office of Medical Education will reimburse residents for the cost of a limited license obtained from the Oregon Medical Board of Examiners.
Samaritan provides, at no cost to the residents, the required professional liability insurance while participating in the program. The professional liability insurance provided does not cover activities outside the program, such as moonlighting.
Each resident receives $1,000 per academic year for continuing medical education purposes. This includes, but is not limited to, books, subscriptions, learning modules, applications, Up to Date and Epocrates.
AOA and specialty college membership
Residents are required to remain active members of the American Osteopathic Association and their specialty college. Costs associated with membership dues will be paid by the Office of Medical Education.
Residents will receive $100 per block to be spent at cafeteria throughout the Samaritan system. Any amount leftover at the duration of a block will be rolled over into the next block.
