 AGH Foundation

Your investment makes all the difference.

In a time when we often wonder if we can make a difference, the Albany General Hospital Foundation responds with a crystal-clear ‘yes’. Local giving remains essential and Albany’s hospital, physicians, nurses and patients still count on you to make that difference.

The foundation board of directors awarded $195,000 in grants for 2007.

The InReach Clinic received $52,000 to support physicians, nurses and other clinicians who volunteer at this free weekly clinic for uninsured working families. This grant ensures that patients have diagnostic testing, prescriptions and other miscellaneous services to assist in the diagnosis and healing process. Three special events, the Foundation’s Gala and InReach Luncheon, and Soroptimist Walk for the Cause are the primary sources of this funding.

Evergreen Hospice has been awarded $67,000 for services to patients and their families. Memorial gifts and bequests are the primary source of funding for these hospice services.

Another smaller cluster of grants totaled more than $76,000 and included items such as:

  • A portable Doppler and wall mounted sphygmomanometers to assist primary care physicians with blood pressure readings
  • Scholarships to help low-income individuals meet with hospital dietitians and diabetes educators
  • A centrifuge to improve laboratory testing times
  • Mechanical resuscitators for infants
  • An elliptical trainer in cardiopulmonary rehab
  • A power podiatry exam chair for the wound/ostomy clinic

Employees are the original source of funding for these grants, and the Board of Directors match their donations. In addition, the Voiture 40/8 Club (American Legion) makes an annual donation for nursing education.

For those interested in education, an additional $30,000 is given annually in scholarships from the Samaritan Albany General Hospital Auxiliary. Proceeds from the group’s all volunteer gift shop on the hospital’s first floor generate funding for these scholarships. The awards are divided between students and working adults seeking advanced education in the human medical field.
