The 12-suite guest house offers a home-like environment to people coming to the medical campus for specialized care and advanced technology, particularly in cardiac and cancer care, that cannot be provided in every community. The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation managed the fund drive to construct the Mario Pastega House; and now, it is asking for community help in building an endowment to ensure the guest house's continued operation. The suggested nightly fee is $15, but no one is turned away for inability to pay. John C. Erkkila, M.D. Endowment for Health and Human PerformanceAnnual grants of up to $20,000 are awarded from the endowment to projects that enhance health and human performance through prevention, rehabilitation or clinical research.
