Program Overview

The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1972 to support the hospital's mission through charitable gifts. A 45-member Board of Trustees oversees the work of the foundation. Among the foundation's major activities are:

Dr. Larry Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education

The Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services, Corvallis, Oregon.  It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the President/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, upon the completion of his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina. The scholarship fund is housed with the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Corvallis, Oregon.  Dr. Mullins chairs the selection committee for the scholarship.  At least one scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually from the fund. Mario Pastega House

Located on the campus of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis, Oregon, the Mario Pastega House offers rest and tranquility for those needing to travel for medical care. The 12-suite guest house offers a home-like environment to people coming to the medical campus for specialized care and advanced technology, particularly in cardiac and cancer care, that cannot be provided in every community.

The Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation managed the fund drive to construct the Mario Pastega House; and now, it is asking for community help in building an endowment to ensure the guest house's continued operation. The suggested nightly fee is $15, but no one is turned away for inability to pay.

John C. Erkkila, M.D. Endowment for Health and Human Performance

Annual grants of up to $20,000 are awarded from the endowment to projects that enhance health and human performance through prevention, rehabilitation or clinical research. The endowment was established in 1994 by Hull-Oakes Lumber Co. owner Ralph Hull. Those eligible for funding include health and human service providers and higher education institutions in Benton, Linn and Lincoln counties.
