Recipients
In 2008, three college students pursuing health-related degrees were awarded scholarships of $1,000 apiece for tuition from the Dr. Larry A. Mullins Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Each of the following recipients demonstrated a passion for the field of health care as well as a strong commitment to accomplishing personal goals.
- Joanne Huntley of Corvallis is enrolled in the registered nurse program at Linn-Benton Community College. A wife and mother, Huntley hopes to merge life skills with technical training to pursue a career as an RN in the Corvallis area. “Once educated and trained, I will use my training and skills to care for others the way I care for my own family,” Huntley wrote in her application.
- Candi L. Fisher of Corvallis is a medical transcriptionist for Samaritan Health Services. Enrolled in the public health program at Oregon State University, Fisher plans to pursue an advanced degree in the field of health promotion and health behavior, and hopes to address community and national issues such as serving the health care needs of the uninsured and under-insured and improving access to care for all. “I hope to gain enough knowledge and experience that I can step into a leadership role and really make a difference,” she wrote.
- Jenny Fisher of Tucson, Ariz., is a certified paramedic with experience both in the field and in administration as an operations manager for an ambulance service. She is enrolled in the health science program at Northern Arizona University and hopes to someday oversee a health care facility. “I am a natural born leader with experience in the field of management,” she wrote. “Most of my adult life has been spent working in the health care industry. It is what I know and love and the field I want to remain in for the rest of my life.”
