Dr. Larry Mullins Endowed Scholarship for Health Care Education
Background
The Larry A. Mullins, DHA, Scholarship was established in 2003 by the board of directors of Samaritan Health Services, Corvallis, Oregon. It was formed in honor of Dr. Mullins, the President/CEO of Samaritan Health Services, upon the completion of his doctoral degree in health care administration (DHA) from the Medical University of South Carolina.
The scholarship fund is housed with the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation, Corvallis, Oregon. Dr. Mullins chairs the selection committee for the scholarship. At least one scholarship of $1,000 is awarded annually from the fund.
Eligibility
In order to be considered for a Mullins scholarship, a candidate must:
- Be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in health care administration, nursing or a medical degree
- Be currently enrolled in one of the following institutions for the upcoming fall semester: Linn-Benton Community College (Oregon); Northern Arizona University; Oregon State University; Oregon Health & Science University; Western University of Health Sciences (for students studying in Oregon)
- Upon receiving a Mullins scholarship, be willing to submit a progress report at the mid-point of the following year
- Mullins scholarships are available to individuals without regard to race, religion, national origin, gender, age, color, disability, or marital status
- Note: special consideration will be given to applicants who are currently employed in the health care field, members or veterans of the U.S. military, and those who are willing to work in Oregon or Arizona.
Application Process and Timeline
- Application information is available to college financial aid/career planning staff, as well as at the link below.
- Completed applications are due in late April of each year (check application for specific date). Scholarship recipient(s) will be announced in late May.
- Scholarship funds will be mailed in June in the recipient’s name directly to the college/university indicated on the application. No funds will be released directly to the recipient.
