The Healing Garden

Overview

Lebanon Community Hospital is blessed with a long tradition of outstanding community support. Even before the hospital was built in 1952, a group of citizens formed a corporation to raise money for the new hospital. Since that time, the community has volunteered its time, talents and financial resources to the hospital through the Mid-Valley Healthcare Corporation and the former Lebanon Community Hospital Development Council.

In 1998, members from both the corporation and development council came together to form a new entity: the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation. Under the direction of a Board of Trustees, the LCH Foundation ensures that community contributions are used locally to enhance the health of residents of east Linn County. The foundation manages assets donated to the hospital, raises additional funds and develops long-range plans and policies.

The Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation is a 501(C)(3) charitable, tax-exempt institution. It meets quarterly to assess its stewardship of hospital assets and to help the hospital stay on the leading edge of rural health care.

In 2006, the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce honored the Foundation with the first ever "Community Spirit Award" for its outstanding work.

Among the recent projects that have been funded wholly or partially through the Foundation are:

  • The Health Career and Training Center
  • The Emenhiser Center
  • The SLCH Healing Garden
  • Construction and remodel of the new Mammography and DEXA Diagnostic Suite
  • Medical scholarships through the Girod Medical Scholarship Program
  • Remodeling of the inpatient care hallways leading to patient rooms
  • Remodeling outpatient care for easy access for patients
  • State-of-the-art medical equipment throughout the hospital and clinics

M Club

M Club consists of individuals who have made an outstanding commitment to the future of Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. Members pledge $1,000 a year and receive a permanent recognition of their gift with an engraved pane in the Living Memories Window. They are invited to an annual event for major donors that highlights the projects and programs their contributions made possible.

Heritage Society

The Heritage Society recognizes and honors special friends who have included Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital in their financial or estate plans. Members have made provision for the hospital in wills or trusts or have provided gifts of life insurance, stocks, real estate or other types of planned gifts.

In addition to receiving the tax benefits of their charitable bequests, Heritage Society members:

  • are invited to an annual major-donor event, organized expressly for them and hosted by the LCH Foundation
  • have their names listed in the recognition corridor of the hospital and in hospital publications.

For more information about becoming a member of the Heritage Society, call (541) 451-7063.

The Living Memories Window

In the hospital's "recognition hallway" hundreds of small, clear, beveled glass windows, each of which is etched – or waiting to be etched -- contains the name of a donor whose accumulated gifts to the hospital, since 1993, have reached $1,000. The wall is a strikingly beautiful reminder of the community's generosity and commitment to the health care of its citizens.

When a donor's gifts reach $5,000, $10,000, $25,000 and $50,000, a colored crystal is added. With a one-time gift of $10,000, a donor may choose to add a selected scripture to a large colored glass panel.

Atrium Sculptures

The hospital's atrium, which can be seen through the clear and multicolored glass panels of the window wall, is an open-air landscaped area of trees, benches, walkways, water fountain and sculptures. It is intended to be a place of solace and comfort where patients and families can relax and heal. Sculptures within the atrium honor donors whose accumulated gifts from 1980-2000 total $125,000 or more.

Emenhiser Bronze Leaf recognition

A bronze leaf sculpture adorns the wall outside the Emenhiser Infusion Center, which overlooks the Healing Garden. Those who donate $1,000 or more to the Emenhiser Center are recognized with their names on the leaves.
