Foundation funds emergency department remodel and expansion

The Pacific Communities Health District (PCHD) Foundation contributed $500,000 to the expansion and remodel of the emergency department at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital (SPCH).

This remodel added an additional 840 square feet of space to create a more efficient processing flow and updated patient service areas. Upgrades include: Greater privacy for patient registration with new triage rooms; a two-bed trauma room; and private shower space in the specially designed isolation/decontamination room.

“The Emergency Department is one of the most critical services that SPCH provides to our community,” said Ursula Marinelli, Director of the PCHD Foundation. “We are pleased to have the foundation play a major role in this expansion and remodel, which will allow the ED to care for more patients and provide them with more comfort.”

Women’s Giving Circle gives first round of grants

The recently formed Women’s Giving Circle at the PCHD Foundation, founded in March 2007 with 21 members, recently gave its first round of grants to local organizations focused on the health of women and children. Each member of the giving circle paid a $250 annual due for a total of $5,250. The giving circle steering committee decided to set aside 10 percent of that for an ongoing fund. The remaining money was given out in the following grants:

  • Two $400 Scholarships for the Certified Nurse Assistant’s Program at Samaritan Pacific Health Services (SPHS)
  • $2,000 toward new bone scanning equipment at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital
  • $615 toward a new mother gift program at the SPHS Women’s Health Clinic
  • $1,000 toward a new workshop series for cancer survivors called “From Surviving to Thriving”
  • $300 for a new infant scale at the Samaritan Depoe Bay clinic
