The shared belief that all people deserve good health care motivates philanthropists Dr. Ken and Nancy Stevens to give their time, energy and gifts to the Pacific Communities Health District (PCHD) Foundation.

Major supporters of the foundation’s annual Festival of Trees, the Stevens have found a way to marry the causes they believe in with the activities they enjoy. Over the past several years, they have done everything from chairing the Festival’s flagship Gala and Auction event, to decorating trees, to donating Italian meals that they prepare for the highest bidder. Nancy said they have met some of their best friends through these meals. The Stevens’ efforts have helped create such projects as the Cardiac Rehabilitation and Outpatient Oncology Units at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. A retired physician, Ken is impressed with the quality and breadth of service the hospital offers.

“Having been in many different communities in my professional life, I know that a lot of smaller communities get by without basic services,” he said. “But here, because of strong community support, we can provide excellent medical care locally.”

A semi-retired nurse and PCHD Foundation Trustee, Nancy is concerned about people in the community without health insurance.

“We know that people who are healthy are better able to support their families emotionally and financially,” she said. “So whatever volunteer work you can do to help people access health care will translate into a healthier community overall. And that affects all of us.”
