Foundation Activities
Annual appeals
The Building Healthier Communities Fund
The Building Healthier Communities Fund allows the Samaritan hospitals to respond to the important needs of each community as quickly as possible. By giving to the fund, you are helping to provide the very X-ray machine, emergency department exam room, or heart monitoring equipment that will be used to care for you or a loved in the future.
Each year, the five Samaritan foundations approach donors and ask them to give to this special fund. Donors choose which hospital their money goes to, and donations are used to fund critical projects at each hospital as needs arise.
Employee Caring Campaign
Each fall, hundreds of employees participate in the annual Samaritan Employee Caring Campaign. Among the more popular giving options is the Employee Assistance Fund, which provides emergency grants or loans for co-workers in need.
Women’s Giving Circle
The Women’s Giving Circle provides annual grants to hospital-based programs and services that enhance women’s and children’s health. Each giving circle member contributes $250 annually to the fund and participates in the selection of the funded projects.
Based on the needs and interests of participants in the Women’s Giving Circle, the group gathers at least once a year for an educational opportunity regarding health care and philanthropy, to vote on fund distribution to projects and to meet with previous recipients. The event is designed to educate, empower and inspire.
Annual events
Festival of Trees
This weeklong series of special events begins with the Lighted Boat Parade on Yaquina Bay the first Saturday of December. The Festival of Trees features elegantly decorated holiday trees and a host of entertaining events, including a First Night Preview Party, Holiday Luncheon and Fashion Show, the Gala and Auction and more.
Proceeds from the Festival of Trees will go toward the creation of a Health Education Center at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital.
Planned giving
Will, trust and estate planning seminars
The foundation hosts free will, trust and estate planning seminars at least once a year. The sessions are led by knowledgeable estate planning professionals in the community who serve on the Planned Giving Advisory Committee for the foundation. Participants receive a comprehensive packet of helpful materials.
Charitable gift annuities
The foundation is licensed to issue charitable gift annuities, which provide the donor with tax benefits and fixed income for life.
Personal proposals and confidential guidance
The affiliated Samaritan foundations have access to Thompson & Associates, one of the country’s premier planned giving advisory firms. Without cost or obligation a personal meeting can be arranged with a seasoned Thompson professional to review a family’s estate goals. The advisor does not draft documents, sell products or manage funds, but offers advice that should be used in conjunction with local professionals. Using a customized software program, staff can also offer easy-to-understand proposals to illustrate the tax and income benefits for a variety of planned gifts.
