 SNLH Foundation

Program Overview

The North Lincoln Hospital Foundation was founded in 1983 as the fund raising organization for the North Lincoln Health District. The mission of the Foundation is to "promote good will toward and encourage support of the North Lincoln Hospital for the health and well being of the community." All Foundation assets are dedicated to the purchase of capital equipment, patient care programs, expansion, or remodeling of physical plant, educational programs or to other purposes deemed appropriate by the health district and the Foundation’s board of directors.

The North Lincoln Hospital Foundation is a 501c3 charitable, tax-exempt institution founded by the North Lincoln Health District Board of Directors and chartered by the State of Oregon on December 16, 1983. Contributions to the Foundation are tax–deductible to the full extent of the law.

As a tax-exempt hospital, North Lincoln Hospital relies on the financial support and goodwill of its citizens. We gratefully appreciate any support you may give.

  • More than $50,000 was raised to help build the Mario Pastega Guest House, which provides affordable lodging (No one is ever turned away because of the inability to pay) for patients and their families who must travel to Corvallis for specialized treatments that require overnight stays.
  • Patient lifts for four patient rooms

Current Programs and Projects Funded:

  • Immunizations for children from low-income families
  • Grants to Hospice Patients an their families to help with personal expenses and reimbursement for uninsured care
  • Prescription drug assistance vouchers provided to low income patients in ER, Med/Surg and OB. Community referrals to help them with recovery.
  • Free mammograms for women who do not have insurance coverage and are referred by their healthcare provider

Permanent Fund

After more than 10 years of receiving gifts and bequests, the North Lincoln Hospital Foundation has achieved its goal of building a permanent fund that generates funds for annual grants for the hospital and healthcare needs.

As of 2007, more than $3 million is invested in a special Permanent Fund for this purpose. A generous bequest from the estate of Vivian Reed provided more than $900,000. More than $50,000 was granted from this fund in 2004; $65,000 in 2005; and $110,000 in 2006.

In 2005, an additional $200,000 was received from the remainder of a gift annuity to establish the Wilber and Agnes Day Fund. The income from this invested fund helps defray Foundation operating expenses.

These funds will continue in perpetuity and future bequests and gifts designated for permanent use will be added to provide for future needs.

Where does the money come from and who decides how it will be spent?

The money is donated to the Foundation by individuals, employees, small business owners, large corporations, special event participants and grants from private foundations. the Foundation also receives generous bequests from local people who name the Foundation in their will.

The CEO of Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital takes requests for grants to the Foundation Board of Trustees for approval. The NLHF Board is comprised of volunteers and includes doctors, local business people, retirees and representatives of the hospital staff.

100 percent of donations and net revenue from special events received by the Foundation are used for charitable purposes. The hospital budget and the Day Fund earnings pay for the operating costs of the Foundation.

How Can You Help?

Gifts can be made by check, credit card or a pledge paid in installments. Your gift can be made in memory or in tribute to a friend or family member. You can acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays. This is the perfect gift for someone who has everything. Their name will be listed in our annual donor recognition publication and on our donor wall displays in the hospital.

Your gift could help diagnose breast cancer, help a patient recuperate from an illness, help fight diabetes and much more.
