Preparing for your preoperative visit with a registered nurse

Your surgeon's office will schedule a time that is convenient for you to speak with a registered nurse in the surgery department.

Many procedures do not require you to come to the hospital to meet with a nurse. In this case a nurse will call you to give you your time of arrival, medications to take, answer questions, and obtain your health history. You may call Day Surgery to schedule a convenient time for the nurse to contact you.

All first time eye procedures will be required to attend a class at the hospital. Second time eye procedures will receive a brief phone call from the preoperative nurse.

For all procedures please bring or have ready a list of all medications, vitamins, herbal supplements, and over-the-counter medications you are currently taking.

Preregistration

You may be contacted by the preregistration staff to obtain additional information and arrange for copayments to be paid, if needed. Samaritan Health Services requires copayments to be paid prior to scheduled admissions. Financial arrangements

Please bring any insurance forms and/or identification cards with you to the hospital. These are used by the patient accounts staff to complete the billing process. For detailed information on billing, call 574-1817.

Transportation

It is very important that you make arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home after your procedure. It is recommended that you have someone stay with you for the next 24 hours as well. If you are unable to arrange a ride home for the day of your scheduled procedure, please notify your physician's office. Your procedure may need to be rescheduled to a day that you have a ride available.
