Insurance & Financial Assistance

Insurance & Financial Assistance

Your insurance coverage

Please be prepared to present your insurance card when you check in for any appointment. We will bill all your insurance companies. You will be asked to pay any co-payment or deductible at the time of service. If we do not receive payment from your insurance company promptly, we will ask you to contact them directly to arrange for payment.
Shortly after services are provided at an SHS-affiliated hospital, clinic or outpatient service, a billing statement will be sent to your residence. We ask that you pay in full or contact us to arrange a payment plan within 30 days. We offer a 10 percent discount to patients with no insurance coverage, which will appear automatically on your statement. You may also choose to apply for free or reduced charges based on your income.

Financial assistance for urgent or emergent health care

Samaritan Health Services will not deny necessary urgent or emergent health care to any individual regardless of his/her ability to pay. A determination of ability to pay shall be made after all relevant financial factors have been examined, evaluated and found to be valid.

Financial assistance may be allowed in full or at a reduced amount depending upon the evaluation of the patient’s ability to pay. Financial assistance is based on the Federal Poverty Guidelines published by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.  Any and all possible sources of payment must be considered before a financial assistance allowance is granted. Payments sources include:

  • Any insurance coverage the patient may have
  • Any third-party coverage, i.e. crime victim
  • Application to Oregon Health Plan, Senior & Disabled Services, or other state and federal programs.

A complete financial questionnaire along with the following documentation will be required:

  • Most recent federal tax return
  • Current proof of income
  • Bank statements
  • Financial aid award letter and transcripts for students
  • Proof of state assistance, i.e. food stamp letter, WIC approval, National School Lunch Program letter (only counts as proof for student it applies to)

All information submitted with financial assistance requests will be kept confidential and will take no more than 30 days to process. Upon final review and processing, Samaritan Health Services will notify all patients of the final determination.

Uninsured discount program

With the growing number of uninsured patients seeking care, we recognize the strain of paying medical bills without insurance coverage. Therefore, we have developed a discount program for our patients who do not have health insurance. Regardless of economic status, self-paying uninsured patients will receive a 10 percent discount. This discount will appear on your Samaritan Health Services billing statement.
