Personal Biography:
Dr. Kauffman specializes in general orthopedic surgery with a special interest in sports medicine and joint replacements. He has been a team doctor for football and wrestling teams in Oregon and California.
Dr. Kauffman received a dental degree from the University of Oregon Dental School in Portland and completed residency training in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Washington in Seattle. He attended the University of Washington School of Medicine intending to be a head and neck surgeon, but became very interested in orthopedic surgery, deciding to pursue that specialty instead. After receiving his medical degree, he completed a five-year orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Southern California Medical Center (USC) in Los Angeles. While a resident at USC, he published several research papers in various orthopedic journals.
Dr. Kauffman practiced orthopedic surgery for 17 years in San Jose, Calif. He most recently spent 10 months working with an orthopedic trauma surgeon at a level 1 trauma center in San Jose before joining Samaritan Orthopedics.
The mid-Willamette Valley is home to Dr. Kauffman as he grew up in Lebanon and attended Lebanon High School where he was active in wrestling and football. While completing undergraduate studies at Oregon State University, he wrestled under the legendary coach, Dale Thomas.
Dr. Kauffman is married, has three grown children and is happy to be back in Oregon. He is a licensed pilot and also enjoys boating and photography, for which he has won several awards.
