Post Graduate Year One (PGY1)

Pharmacy Residency

Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center is a part Samaritan Health Services, and is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley about 90 minutes south of Portland, and 40 minutes from the Pacific Ocean. The city of Corvallis offers a beautiful landscape, with ample opportunity for various outdoor activities such as skiing and mountain biking. Oregon State University is housed in Corvallis, which provides numerous cultural and athletic offerings to the city’s population of about 50,000.

The PGY1 Pharmacy Residency is structured to teach residents how to provide clinical pharmacy service and is individualized toward the resident’s area of interest.

Ambulatory rotations include:

  • Pharmacist-managed anticoagulation clinics
  • Home and ambulatory infusion
  • Internal medicine
  • Diabetes education
  • Pharmacotherapy consult service
  • Dialysis

Acute care rotations include:

  • Pharmacokinetics
  • Critical care / cardiology
  • Hospitalist / internal medicine

Other experiences include:

  • Drug information
  • Hospice
  • Long term care
  • Management
  • Pharmacy and therapeutics activities
  • Investigational review board
  • Managed care activates
  • Drug use policy development
  • Medication error prevention
  • Quality assurance

In addition to student precepting opportunities, a teaching rotation is offered through Oregon State University. A major research project is required and will be presented at the Western States Residency Conference.

Start date: July 1

Length of the program: 1 year
