Program Overview
Simply stated, integrative medicine is the bringing together of all parts to make a healthy whole. It’s recognizing the connections among a person’s mind, body, spirit and environment and realizing that what’s good for one part is good for all parts. It’s creating a “healing environment” that will facilitate each person’s well-being.
Samaritan Integrative Medicine is a distinct entity within Samaritan Health Services (SHS). However, in hundreds of caring ways, the integrative approach to healing can be found throughout the facilities of Samaritan Health Services (SHS). Those ways include hanging beautiful artwork in halls and rooms of buildings, including fragrant rose gardens and soothing water features in landscape plans, making available relaxing massages, and offering movie videos and music CDs to hospital patients.
Perhaps the most dramatic evidence of the SHS commitment to integrative medicine is the newly-established Heartspring Wellness Center located on the campus of Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis. The center is the outpatient clinic of Samaritan Integrative Medicine. Its professionally-directed programs and services offer unprecedented access to multiple time-honored processes for healing the body and mind. Through individual sessions and group workshops, Heartspring Wellness Center offers safe and effective techniques, including:
- massage
- stress and symptom reduction programs
- acupressure
- training in meditation
- Reiki
- therapeutic touch
- herbal counseling
- guided imagery for pain reduction and better living
- and more
