How it Works

Though the da Vinci® system is often referred to as a "robot," the system cannot operate on its own. A surgeon is in control, using his or her hand movements to generate smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient's body. This technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures through just a few tiny openings.

As a result, patients have less pain after surgery, shorter hospital stays and are able to get back to normal activities faster. The da Vinci® Surgical System has been successfully used in hundreds of thousands of minimally invasive procedures worldwide.
