Cardiology

Cardiologists are physicians who specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases or conditions of the heart and blood vessels—the cardiovascular system. Cardiologists use tests to diagnose heart and vascular disease, and they use both surgical and nonsurgical treatment options.

You might also visit a cardiologist so you can learn about your risk factors for heart disease and find out what measures you can take for better heart health.

Cardiothoracic Surgery

Cardiothoracic surgeons are physicians who specialize in the surgical treatment of diseases affecting organs inside the thorax (the chest), including treatment of conditions of the heart (heart disease) and lungs (lung disease).

Cardiovascular Surgery

Cardiovascular surgeons are physicians who operate on your heart and blood vessels to repair damage caused by diseases or disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Cardiovascular surgeons perform many different types of operations, including heart valve repair and replacement, heart defect repair, coronary artery bypass, aneurysm repair, transmyocardial laser revascularization, and heart transplantation. They also perform operations on the blood vessels in your body, including the aorta—the body’s main blood supplier.

Vascular Surgery

Vascular surgeons are physicians who specialize in evaluating and treating diseases of the blood vessels of the body, with the exception of the vessels of the heart and the brain.

Vascular surgeons use medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures and surgical reconstruction to treat arteries and veins. They are trained to operate on arteries and veins of the chest, abdomen, neck and extremities. They perform operations for a variety of conditions including aneurysm repair, stroke prevention surgery, bypass surgery and endovascular repair of conditions of arteries and veins.
