NeuroStar TMS Therapy

Non-invasive, non-medicated treatment for major depression

NeuroStar TMS Therapy

Samaritan Mental Health in Corvallis is the first mental health provider in the state of Oregon to offer NeuroStar® TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) Therapy, the only TMS system cleared by the FDA for the treatment of depressed patients who have not benefited from prior antidepressant drug treatment.

This treatment is offered at highly regarded organizations such as Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Mayo Clinic. Samaritan Mental Health is proud to be on the cutting-edge of treatment for depression and is encouraged by continuing research that indicates TMS treatment’s promise for a large array of mental health and neurological problems.

What is TMS?

TMS treatment is non-invasive and does not require the use of medication. Treatment involves focused delivery of MRI-strength magnetic pulses non-invasively through the skull to stimulate the regions of the brain thought to be involved in mood regulation. Patients being treated with TMS do not require anesthesia or sedation and remain awake and alert.

This outpatient procedure, performed in our clinic, takes approximately 45 minutes and is typically administered five days a week for four to six weeks. NeuroStar TMS Therapy® has been demonstrated to be safe, effective, and tolerable when used in the treatment of depression.

Patients who qualify for treatment with TMS may be eligible to participate in a study to collect additional information about how TMS affects depression and other health factors. If you are interested in participating in this study, ask about it when you call us.
