Pastoral Services

Offering comfort, prayer, counseling and sacraments

For patients and families

  • During times of hospital care, we will provide pastoral care services and spiritual ministry to patients and families to assist in healing, sustaining and guiding them.
  • We maintain strict confidentiality in all aspects of pastoral care.
  • Our goal is to make available religious rituals and resources in keeping with a person’s particular religious faith.
  • We will help provide ethical consultation and decision making when needed.

For staff and employees

  • We are pleased to work cooperatively with members of the health care team in providing care for the whole person—body, mind and spirit.
  • The pastoral services staff is available to provide counseling and support to all employees and staff.

Services

An associate of the chaplain’s office will visit you as soon as possible after your admission. We are available to be with you according to your individual needs and desires. Respect for your religious views is maintained. Our purpose is to assist in creating a healing environment for you and your family.

Protestant sacraments

  • Anointing of the sick available upon request

Catholic sacraments

  • Bedside communion offered daily by Eucharistic ministers
  • Anointing of the sick available upon request

Prayer

An important part of our ministry is prayer for and with patients and family members. We witness its effectiveness in bringing God’s healing presence to this hospital setting.

Prayer for a patient

Holy and loving God,
I entrust myself to Your care this day. Guide with wisdom and skill the minds and hands of those who minister in Your name and grant that every cause of illness being removed, I may be restored to soundness of health and learn to live in more perfect harmony with You and with all people.
Amen

Staff

Members of the Pastoral Services Department include ordained, clinically trained clergy and lay chaplains.

Rabbis, Roman Catholic priests and clergy of other faiths are welcomed and encouraged to visit. Our staff will arrange for these visits at your request.

Hospital chapel

The chapel is open daily for prayer and meditation. Prayer requests can be shared by writing them in the journal on the altar. Scriptures and daily devotional material are available.
Memorial services are conducted on an occasional basis. Please contact the Department of Pastoral Services, if we can be of help.

The Good Shepherd

The Lord is my shepherd
I shall not want.He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul;He leads me in the paths of righteousness, For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,I will fear no evil;for you are with me;Your rod and Your staff,They comfort me.

You prepare a table before meIn the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil;My cup runs over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me, All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Psalm 23

“Be determined and confident! Do not be afraid or discouraged, for I, the Lord your God, am with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
