Primary Snoring

When snoring occurs without disturbing the sleep of the snorer, it is called primary snoring. Snoring is simply the noise made by the vibration of soft parts of the upper airway, usually caused when something partially obstructs that airway. It’s a common problem, occurring in about 40 percent of men and 20 percent of women. About 20 percent of snorers have sleep apnea. Loud snoring may simply disturb others in your household, but it may also be an early warning for obstructive sleep apnea. Early intervention can both improve relationships and reduce the risk of developing sleep apnea.
