Samaritan social workers

Mental health social workers

Mental health social workers assist patients and families by providing individual (adolescent and adult), family therapy and group sessions in an outpatient setting. These services can include therapy for the following reasons but aren’t limited to:

• Depression
• Complicated physical health issues
• Anxiety
• Grief/loss
• Long-term exploratory psychotherapy
• Parent/child relationships
• Parenting
• Separation/divorce, transitions, stress management
• School/peer issues, developmental issues
• Eating disorder assessments
• Sports psychology consultations

Hospital social workers

Hospital social workers assist patients and families by providing referrals to community resources and emotional support for:

• Ethical concerns and decision making
• Family concerns that may interfere with the patient’s health management
• Gathering educational resources
• Grief and loss
• Health care directives
• Information and referral to support groups and community resources
• New diagnosis
• Potentially life threatening diagnosis
• Physical, sexual or emotional abuse and neglect issues
• Stress reduction
• Substance abuse and/or mental health issues

Integrative medicine Heartspring Wellness Center

Integrative medicine’s mind-body social workers use a holistic approach in dealing with patients’ concerns and problems, appreciating that each person’s concerns may impact them spiritually and physically as well as emotionally, socially and cognitively. The sessions are offered either in the in-patient setting or in the Heartspring Wellness Center clinic. The social workers offer classes and workshops in addition to individual sessions. Health coaching, including work with self-management goals and personal empowerment, are available. Services are provided for the following issues:

• Anxiety
• Depression
• Loss and grief
• Transitions/adjustment difficulties
• Couple/family issues
• Communication/interpersonal problems
• Stress related problems—stress reduction/relaxation
• Health related issues including chronic health problems

Cancer social workers

Oncology/cancer social workers help cancer patients and their families with the following services:

• Psychosocial services to cancer patients, their families and caregivers
• Connecting patients and their families with essential community, state, national and international resources
• Meeting the social, emotional, educational and spiritual needs of cancer patients
