Center for Women and Families
Program overview
Obstetrics and gynecology services are delivered, along with lots of "TLC," at the hospital's Center for Women and Families. The Center occupies the entire fourth floor of the hospital. More than 90 staff members, including registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, unit secretaries and technicians work together to provide high standards of care in a family-friendly environment. The center delivers approximately 1,100 babies each year.
 The Center has six private birthing suites complete with hardwood floors, a whirlpool tub, a pull-out bed for dad, soft colors and comfortable furnishings.
A large closet in each birthing suite keeps extra equipment hidden until delivery time. Then, all but cesarean deliveries can be safely completed in the birthing suite. If a cesarean is indicated, two specially-equipped surgical suites are just steps away.
Center staff work with expectant parents to help achieve a memorable birth experience. The suites are large enough to accommodate family members and other loved ones. A VCR and tape player are readily available for special music and video requests. And the sweeping views from your fourth-floor room are unmatched.
 After the birth and recovery, or if you are a gynecological surgery patient, the remainder of your stay takes place in one of 13 comfortably-furnished rooms at the center. This is "bonding time" for mom and baby, and your needs will be attended to by staff who are specially-trained to care for women and newborns.
The Center for Women and Families recently received patient satisfaction scores far higher than the national average for similar sized hospitals. Department staff attribute their success to great teamwork and cross-trained staff who pride themselves in excellent care and service to patients and their families.

Classes for expectant and new parents
The Center for Women and Families offers a variety of classes including a childbirth preparation series, sibling preparation (called the Brother-Sister Connection), infant CPR, infant massage, and much more.  Home visit
New moms have the opportunity for a home visit by a registered nurse within the first few days after discharge. This visit provides an excellent time to ask the nurse questions about breastfeeding, infant development, sleep-related issues, and more. Our moms consistently rank this visit as one of the most valued services provided by the center.
Breastfeeding information and support
After the home visit, additional questions about breastfeeding may be directed to the Lactation Support Line, 541-768-5244. A certified lactation specialist will respond to your question as soon as possible.
Breast pump rental and other breastfeeding supplies are available from Samaritan Pharmacy Services on the first floor of the Charles S. Neville Medical Office Building across from the hospital. To reach the pharmacy, call 541-768-5225.
