Program Overview

If you're looking for a way to “give back” to those in need, consider hospital volunteering! Volunteers are men and women, from 15 years of age to senior citizens, who come from diverse backgrounds. Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center volunteers include high school-aged Junior Volunteers, college students, former patients, retirees and husband and wife teams. Some are parents who pay babysitters in order to give a morning to the medical center. Some are in their active eighties, traveling by bus, still enjoying being involved with others.

Some have only a couple of hours each week to give, others come after work to offer a few evening or weekend hours. Some may serve for a half or full day, once a week.

Sharing their varied skills, talents and interests, they come for whatever personal reasons, to join in the mutually satisfying relationships – one to one – which the hospital setting offers.

The common bonds among all volunteers are a desire to serve the medical center, an enjoyment of people and gratification from a job well done.

How can you become a volunteer?

Volunteer status becomes effective on completion of the following:

  1. Your application is completed and returned to the Volunteer Services Department
  2. You have a personal interview to explore your skills and interests
  3. You and the manager reach an agreement about a plan for placement, orientation and training in the service where you can be most happy and helpful
  4. Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary

In 1953, a group of Corvallis women established the Women's Auxiliary of Good Samaritan Hospital. The coffee cart service was the first visible sign of these volunteers within the hospital.

The name has been changed to fit the times. The word "women's" was deleted to indicate that men are also a welcome part of the Auxiliary.

Anyone may join the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Members are invited to attend several meeting a year: some educational, some recognitional and some social. There are also opportunities to benefit from and participate in the Auxiliary's leadership.

Annual Auxiliary dues are $10

The Auxiliary structure is as follows:

  • Executive committee comprising officers elected by the general membership
  • Board of Directors comprising elected officers, standing committee chairperson and representatives from the various areas of service
  • Chairperson of the areas of service are selected mutually by the Auxiliary president and the Volunteer Services manager
  • General Membership

Revenue generated from the Gift Shop provides a major portion of the gifts given by the Auxiliary to the medical center. These gifts may take the form of equipment, videotapes for patient education or scholarships for students in health care programs.
