 SPCH: Hospital Services

Surgical Services

The Surgical Services team at Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital (SPCH) is comprised of some of the finest surgeons and health care professionals in the area. We feature state-of-the-art equipment and an exceptional staff of caregivers and physicians providing all of our patients with high-quality, compassionate care within a community hospital setting close to home. We know that surgery can be a very stressful time for our patients and their family members, and our entire staff is committed to ensuring that each of you has a pleasant experience during your hospital visit. If you have any questions or concerns during your visit, please don’t hesitate to ask your caregiver.

We also encourage you to fill out one of our patient satisfaction questionnaires. Or if you have any comments you’d like to share following your visit, please don’t hesitate to let us know by calling (541) 574-4718.

Available procedures

You don’t need to leave the area for the comprehensive surgical care. Locally, SPCH offers numerous surgical specialties including:

  • Endoscopy
  • ENT/Allergy
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecology
  • Obstetrics
  • Opthamology
  • Orthopedics
  • Podiatry
  • Urology

Because we are affiliated with Samaritan Health Services, a comprehensive network of hospitals, senior care facilities and physician clinics across Lincoln, Linn and Benton counties, we have immediate access to some of the most advanced health care technology and resources available in our region. Surgical services for cardiac, brain and spine, and cancer, to name a few, are available at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in Corvallis.

Day surgery

Today, many procedures and surgeries can be performed on a convenient and cost-effective outpatient basis and require no overnight hospitalization. For these procedures, you can expect to be at the hospital approximately three to four hours, depending on the type of surgery you have and how you feel afterwards.

Preliminary testing needed before surgery can usually be completed prior to the day of surgery.

Pre-op surgical instructions

We will arrange for a pre-op visit before surgery for you to speak with a nurse who will provide you with pre-operative instructions. The visit may be in person or over the phone. Unless otherwise instructed, you cannot have anything to eat or drink after midnight before you surgery. Take any medications you are instructed to pre-operatively. Please arrange for a ride home from the hospital—you will not be able to drive yourself home. If you will be staying overnight with us, we also recommend that you have someone with you the first day.

Registration will begin before you arrive

You will be asked to come to the hospital outpatient registration 11⁄2 hours before your surgery. Please follow the instructions below:

• Nothing to eat or drink—no mints, gum, coffee or water. For your safety, your procedure may be cancelled if you eat or drink.

• Please do not smoke the day of surgery.

• Take only those medications you were instructed to take with a sip of water.

• Bathe and shampoo before coming to surgery. Do not use perfume or make-up, especially eye make-up.

• Wear loose, comfortable clothing that’s easy to put on and take off. If you expect to have a large bandage, wear clothes that will fit over it.

• Contact lenses? Bring your lens case and solution to remove them.

• Leave all valuables at home, including jewelry, money and credit cards.

• Children may bring a toy, blanket or pillow to comfort them during their stay.

Please be aware that our surgery schedule must be flexible because we need to respond to emergency procedures. Please be patient with us if your surgery is delayed.

Going home

If you receive any medication that will make you drowsy, please remember you cannot drive for 24 hours after surgery. We ask that your ride keep in touch with us, and ideally not leave the hospital until you are ready to go home. You will receive self-care discharge instructions about your diet, rest and medication. Often, we will call you the next day to see how you’re feeling. If you have any questions, you may call us at 541-574-4718, or call your physician.

Surgical staff

Our entire staff is committed to excellence!

We foster a partnership among nurses, physicians and other health care professionals resulting in the best possible patient care and experience. This approach also helps to ensure that each patient receives full benefit of the nursing staff’s clinical and operational expertise. We are all Advanced Cardiac Live Support (ACLS) certified, and most of our nurses also have Certified Nursing Operating Room certification granted by the Certified Board of Perioperative Nursing, which represents continued professional achievement and education in providing patient care before, during and after surgery.
