Rehabilitation ServicesYour physician can refer you for rehabilitation treatment at SPCH. Physical TherapyPhysical therapists provide care for a variety of orthopedic, neurologic, vascular, soft tissue, or congenital diseases and injuries. A variety of treatment methods (water, heat, cold, electrical stimulation, exercise and gait training) are utilized to alleviate pain, correct deformities, promote healing, decrease the effects of prolonged inactivity due to extended illness, and return you to an optimal level of functioning in daily living. Treatment programs, based on the evaluation of licensed professionals, are designed to meet your individual needs. Occupational TherapyOccupational therapists use occupation, or purposeful activity, to help prevent, reduce or overcome disabilities. Anyone whose ability to meet the needs of daily life, has been temporarily or permanently impaired can be a candidate for occupational therapy. Health problems treated include stroke, cerebral palsy, arthritis, spinal cord injury, hand injury and hip fracture or replacement. Psychological, developmental and learning disabilities also may be treated by occupational therapists. The goal is to help individuals achieve their maximum level of functioning so that they can lead productive, satisfying lives. Speech TherapySpeech and language problems may exist at any age, from the newborn to the geriatric patient, and range from an inability to say words clearly to the total inability to communicate orally. Problems may arise from stroke, birth defects, accidents, surgery, abuse or illness. The speech and language pathologist for the hospital and Home Health Agency evaluates and works to improve communication skills, speech, voice, aural rehabilitation and alternative means of communication. |
