Vein Disease, Varicose Veins & Treatment
What Is Vein Disease?
Vein disease (or venous reflux disease) is a condition which develops when the valves that keep blood flowing out of the legs and back to the heart become damaged or diseased. As a result, vein valves will not close properly, leading to varicose veins and other symptoms, including:
- Pain
- Swollen limbs
- Leg heaviness and fatigue
- Skin changes
Symptoms can worsen over time if left untreated.
Vein Stripping Vs. Minimally-Invasive Treatment
As an alternative to vein stripping, the minimally-invasive, ClosureFast, procedure uses a small incision at the insertion site and the vein is then closed and left in place. This minimally-invasive approach virtually eliminates pain and bruising that is commonly associated with vein stripping.
The minimally-invasive procedure can provide relief from symptoms such as pain, swollen limbs, leg heaviness and fatigue, etc.
This outpatient procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and most patients resume normal activities within one to two days. Little to no scarring, as well as minor bruising and swelling can be expected.
