Lebanon hospital foundation offers scholarships to health career students

Students from east Linn County who are pursuing a career in health care will want to check out the scholarships offered through the Lebanon Community Hospital Foundation.

Applications for all scholarships are due April 30 to the foundation. Winners will be announced by June 1.

The foundation is offering the following scholarships to students with an address in east Linn County:

  • The Frank Girod, MD Scholarship for students enrolled in medical school. The late Dr. Girod was a longtime family physician in Lebanon and was instrumental in establishing Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital at its current site more than 60 years ago. His family established this scholarship in his honor; previous recipients of the scholarship are now practicing medicine across the country.
    Applicants must submit an application, available from the foundation office at the hospital, along with a written statement about their goals and any community service involvement.
  • The Rachel Easton, RN Nursing Scholarship for students accepted into a nursing program. The late Rachel Easton was a longtime nurse at Samaritan‚Äôs Park Street Clinic; her family established this scholarship in her honor.
    All applicants must submit an official transcript including Fall 2013 grades, a one- or two-page typed statement discussing why you are pursuing a nursing degree and listing your goals; a completed application form and a Cost and Resource Estimate Work Sheet; any special circumstances you might like the Easton Scholarship Committee to consider; and a signed and dated letter of recommendation from someone who knows you well.
  • The John and Carol Dinges Medical Scholarship for students enrolled in an entry-level health career program at Linn Benton Community College. Examples of an entry level program include certified nursing assistant, phlebotomist and dental assistant.
    While first preference will be given to graduates of Lebanon High School, graduates of all east Linn County high schools are invited to apply.
