Coping with the loss of a loved one: grief education and support available

Samaritan Evergreen Hospice is again offering free, seven-week grief education and support groups. This spring the groups will be held in Albany and Lebanon. The groups are open to anyone seeking guidance in their journey through grief.

The Albany group series will be held at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House on Fridays beginning April 18, from 1:30 to 3:15 p.m. The hospice house is located at 4600 Evergreen St. SE in Albany, near the Mennonite Village.

The Lebanon group series will be held at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital on Thursdays beginning April 17, from 2 to 3:45 p.m.

Grief education and support groups provide community members the chance to meet with a small group of people who are also learning how to cope after the death of someone they love. The loss does not have to be recent.

Each session includes information on a particular aspect of grief and suggestions for coping with some of the changes many people experience after a death of a loved one, while providing an opportunity to talk about experiences in a confidential, supportive setting.

There is no charge but registration and a brief phone interview with the facilitator is required; contact Virginia Tyler, LPC, at 541-812-4680.
