Kids with diabetes invited to meet champion triathlete

SHARE
Kids diagnosed with diabetes and their families are invited to the Mid-Willamette Family YMCA for a free swim night and talk with triathlete Jay Hewitt on Friday, June 13.

The diabetes team at Samaritan Albany General Hospital, along with Novo Nordisk, are sponsoring this free event. It will go from 7 to 8:30 p.m. with snacks at the YMCA, 3311 Pacific Blvd. SW in Albany.

Hewitt was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while studying law at the University of South Carolina in 1991. Determined not to let diabetes hold him back, he became an elite Ironman triathlete and three-time member of the U.S. National Team for Long Distance Triathlon.

Hewitt raced for Team USA at the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in 2004, 2005 and 2006 in Sweden, Denmark and Australia. He is the only athlete with type 1 diabetes to qualify for the U.S. National Triathlon Team.

In addition to being an attorney, he is also a professional motivational speaker for his program “Finish Line Vision,” where he encourages people to reach their own personal finish line. Learn more about Hewitt at FinishLineVision.com.
